The Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires-MAMBA-was established on April 1956 and its first director was the art critic Rafael Squirm. Until his arrival at the Teatro Municipal General San Martin, their exhibitions were 'manifestations of lightning or ambushes ', where passersby were surprised to deploy sculptures. During that period, received the name 'Museum Phantom 'until it was installed in the building of Corrientes 1530, where it was consolidating and affirming its own identity. With the passage of time, the scope of the activities made it necessary to have developed its own headquarters. In 1986 it was awarded the building at San Juan 350, heart the neighborhood of San Telmo, which had housed the old factory Piccardo cigarettes. The headquarters of the museum was closed by the restoration and expansion of the building. The headquarters of the museum was reopened on December 2010, following the renovation and enhancement of that building.
